The Observer has promised me my chocolate column will be easier to find from now on and you can - lo! - search for my name now in the search bar.
This week’s column is about the excellent Sur Chocolates and some rather nice truffles and nuts they do. And some memories of my dad, which popped into my head whilst I was writing it.
I’ve read/heard two things about death recently which have really appealed to me. One was Keanu Reeves’ answer to “what happens when you die” when he says “your loved ones miss you” which was both an original answer, witty and comforting. Then somewhere else (apologies but I don’t remember where/who said it) was that our children are our afterlife. This may be a bit divisive/excluding if you don’t have children but I think even if you don’t have biological children you will probably have children you influence in your life.
Saturday’s Guardian column is about being fit to drive and it’s caused a lot of comments, which I always welcome. It’s a rare week where readers don’t make me think and I love hearing other people’s points of view if they are constructively given (shout out here to the moderators who do such a great, unseen job filtering out the less helpful comments).
The letter this week was written from a very loving place and I had no doubts the intention was well meaning. Of course you can be unfit to drive at any age and as some of the comments point out, some young driers could do with more practise/learning.
Here are some interesting facts viz accidents involving older drivers and younger drivers.
